United Way of Cass County (UWCC) has awarded $31,133.50 to Mental Health America - Wabash Valley Region (MHA-WVR) to support the expansion of the Peer Navigator program in Cass County. MHA-WVR launched the program earlier this year on a part-time basis with funding through UWCC’s annual allocation. This grant will enable MHA-WVR to provide a full-time Peer Navigator.

“We are excited for this partnership with Mental Health America - Wabash Valley Region. This is a much-needed service for our community. We’ve heard nothing but great reviews of the work so far and look forward to the long-term impact of this program,” said Chris Armstrong, United Way of Cass County Executive Director.

The Peer Navigator program provides person-centered support, helping those experiencing mental health or substance use challenges overcome barriers to care. In the third quarter alone, over 130 appointments were completed. The navigator has been able to connect clients with treatment, housing, and other valuable resources.

“Since placing a part-time Peer Navigator in Cass County in May, we have seen an incredible need for these services and a strong response from the community. By meeting individuals where they are—at various locations throughout the community—we have been able to reduce barriers and connect more people with the support, recovery resources, and services they need. It quickly became clear that a full-time presence was needed, and we are incredibly grateful to the United Way of Cass County for making this expansion possible,” said Michelle Zaremba, MHA-WVR Supportive Services Director.

UWCC’s Community Investment Committee allocated an additional $16,750 to help sustain this program in 2027. UWCC and MHA-WVR look forward to continuing this partnership and addressing the mental health needs of the Cass County community. Learn more at mhawv.org/peer-navigator
