ALICE is an acronym that stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. Based on 2024 Point in Time Data from the most recent ALICE Report, 31% of Cass County households are considered to be part of the ALICE population. These households earn wages above the poverty level but not enough to cover all their bills. While Cass County's poverty rate (12%) is in line with the Indiana state average, our ALICE population (31%) is higher than the state average of 26%
ALICE families often face difficult choices when it comes to their needs and expenses. They may have to choose between putting gas in their car or buying groceries for their family. These households often make too much money for traditional financial assistance programs, but they can receive support through local nonprofits. We support programs through our Partner Agencies, as well as coordinate initiatives to help these families meet their needs.
