ALICE is an acronym that stands for Asset Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed. 31% of Cass County households are considered to be part of the ALICE population, meaning that they earn wages above the poverty level but cannot make ends meet. While Cass County poverty levels are slightly below the Indiana state average, our ALICE population is higher than Indiana's state average of 27%.
ALICE families often face difficult choices when it comes to their needs and expenses. They may have to choose between putting gas in their car or buying groceries for their family. We support programs through our Partner Agencies, as well as coordinate initiatives to help these families meet their needs.
