Backpack Program

Mission

To feed hungry children on the weekends so they come to school ready to learn.

The "Logansport Backpack Program" is a United Way of Cass County initiative that began in the fall of 2008. It is a feeding program that sends weekend backpacks of food home with eligible students from Logansport Elementary Schools. Statistics and data tell us that children in food deprived homes struggle with learning. Additionally, the oldest person typically cooking in those homes is 12. This food is a supplement to help the family complete meals over the weekend. This helps prevent students from returning to school on Monday hungry. 410 students received bags throughout the 2021-2022 school year.

Food Finders plans the menus and food is purchased through them. You can support this program with your donation to the United Way of Cass County designating to the Logansport Backpack Program. Food drives for specific food items are also very helpful. Backpacks are packed weekly throughout the school year. For more information, contact United Way of Cass County at 574-753-3533.
